Sustainable Investments 4.0: checks before applying

Eligible SMEs can submit applications to Invitalia from 6 October 2026. The scheme supports innovative and sustainable programmes in Italy’s less-developed regions, subject to company requirements, financial coverage and consistent documentation.

Eligible businesses and regions

The measure targets micro, small and medium-sized enterprises with a production unit in Molise, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sicily or Sardinia. Applicants must be established, registered and active, use ordinary accounting and have at least two approved filed accounts or, for sole traders and partnerships, at least two tax returns.

Eligible investments

Programmes must be innovative, sustainable, technologically advanced and consistent with Italy’s Transition 4.0 framework. Environmental performance, efficient use of resources and energy, and circular-economy outcomes receive particular attention. Eligibility depends on the actual programme and the 2025 ATECO classification.

Support and the company contribution

Support covers up to 75% of eligible expenditure: a 35% capital grant and a 40% subsidised loan. The loan is interest-free and may run for up to seven years. The business must cover at least 25% through its own resources or external finance without public support.

2026 changes and limits

Where applicable, compliance with compulsory catastrophe-risk insurance is an admission condition. Quotations are no longer attached to the application; assets, specifications and costs must be described in the investment plan and checked against invoices during disbursement. The aid cannot be freely combined with other public support.

Application and documents

Applications could be completed from 10 September 2026 and submitted from 6 October 2026. Filing is online, in Italian, by the legal representative or a registered delegate. Digital identity, digital signature, certified email, an investment plan and the required attachments are necessary.

Practical next step

Before filing, check SME status, two accounting periods, project location, eligible activity, Transition 4.0 consistency, regulatory and social-security compliance, the private 25% contribution, insurance status, accounting data and investment plan. Applications are assessed; funding is not automatic.
